Preparation Steps

1
  • 1 cm ginger, peeled
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp sake or rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp oyster sauce or shiitake sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
Prepare the sauce: Mix all sauce ingredients (ginger, water, sake/rice vinegar, cornstarch, oyster/shiitake sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil) thoroughly and set aside.
2
  • 400g beef, or seitan
Cut the beef or seitan into bite-sized pieces. Place the protein in a container, mix with the prepared sauce, and marinate overnight or for at least 3 hours.
3
  • 1 broccoli head, in florets
Microwave, steam, or let the broccoli florets steep in boiled water for 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp.
4
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • Oil (for frying)
Heat some oil in a frying pan and add the diced onion. Add the marinated beef/seitan and cook until browned on all sides. If the sauce becomes too thickened or starts to burn, add a dash of water. Finally, add the prepared broccoli and cook until it has soaked up the sauce. Serve immediately.
