Preparation Steps

1
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2-3 tbsp black soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp 5-spice powder
Mix the soy sauce, black soy sauce, sugar, and 5-spice powder together to create the braising sauce. Set aside.
2
  • 400 g pork belly
Cut the pork belly into thick stripes (similar to how it appears in the photo). Place the pork belly in a container, mix thoroughly with the prepared sauce, and marinate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
3
Heat a little oil in a pan. Add the marinated pork belly and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes to sear.
4
  • 1 cup of water
  • Optional: More spices like star anise, cloves, cardamom seeds, fennel seeds, ginger...
Add the water and any optional whole spices (star anise, cloves, etc.) to the pot. Stir to combine.
5
  • 3-4 hardboiled eggs
Gently add the hardboiled eggs to the pot and stir carefully so as not to break them. Let the pork belly and eggs simmer for at least 20 minutes, or until the pork is fully cooked and tender. Taste the sauce and add extra salt, sugar, or spices if necessary.
